Spices are the inseparable part of Indian Cuisine. Though, it is hard to find out since when the spices became so essential part of Indian Cuisine, every Indian kitchen has a special space allotted only to spices.Spices also have contributed a great deal in Indian history. Since Ancient times spices were the chief commodity of export and had and still have tremendous demand in international market.
Hence, it is not surprising that such a valuable commodity has acquired its own place among legal tenders. India Post issued a set of 5 stamps featuring Spices of India. These stamps depict series of spices which are chiefly cultivated in India.
The stamps come in Rs5 denomination depicting images and the names of the spices, which include Cardamom (Ilaichi), Black Pepper (Kali Mirch), Cinnamon (Dalchini) and Clove (Laung). It also includes stamp of the denomination Rs. 20 which features 3 spices collectively i.e. Turmeric (Haldi), Chilly (Mirch) and Corriander (Dhaniya).
The stamps have never been so delicious...!
